Sardar Tara Singh became
a Municipal Councilor (BJP) in 1984 from Ward No.165
in Bhandup defeating his nearest rival of the Congress
Party by thumping Majority of Votes. And then there
was no looking back for him. He transformed the entire
area of his ward into a neat and clean place to live
in. Earlier it was a very filthy and dirty place. The
roads and lanes were widened and concretized. New toilets
were constructed everywhere, new Nullahs and gutters
were constructed at a huge cost. The B.E.S.T. buses
were started plying from every nook and corner for the
convenience of the people and electricity was provided
all over by erecting hundreds of new electric poles.
To make the area environmental hundreds of new trees
were planted all around.
With his dedicated social
and civic works for the people, soon his popularity
spread to the entire city and the Hon’ble Governor
of Maharashtra Sh. P. C. Alexander honoured him with
the ‘Best Corporator’s Award’ of Mumbai
Mahanagarpalika.
Sardar Tara Singh again
fought the Municipal Elections from Ward No. 214 in
1991 and won with thumping majority defeating his nearest
Congress rival. And in 1997 he created history by winning
the election of BMC from Ward No. 212 by highest number
of Votes in Mumbai. In this fight he defeated his 20
rivals, all of them lost their deposits.
